Race for Life on Sark

The Race for Life, in support of Cancer Research UK, is a national event that has been organised locally for the past two years. This year saw Sark get involved and host its own Race for Life, with more than 30 adult and junior participants run, jog or walk a 3km or a 5km route on Sark’s dusty lanes. A warm-up was held prior by Alex Magell of Sark Running Club whilst local yoga teacher and artist Louise Smit organised a cool- down for everyone before the team at the Island Hall opened specially to offer refreshments afterwards.

Sark organiser Natalie Tighe said:

‘The Race for Life, in support of Cancer Research UK, is an amazing event and it is great that Dani and her team were able to help organise it locally in 2022 and this year. I am aware of many Sark residents who have participated in past years, though the ferry timetables do not always allow for getting across to Guernsey in time, and a lot would prefer to put funds to the charity instead of accommodation, so I got in touch with Dani, who has been incredible, and here we are today! With 1 in 2 people being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, this is a disease that affects everyone; my employer has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and by raising funds to fight this awful disease, we can hopefully help to find a cure faster.’

At the time of going to print, £23,473 has been raised, smashing the original target of £15,000 by 56%, with donations still being taken.
