Sark’s community pulls together to ensure Christmas Light Switch On
Following the recent news that Sark Electricity Ltd would no longer be able to be solely responsible for the Sark Christmas Lights, Sark’s Chamber of Commerce, who usually manages the event itself, publicised that, for the event to continue, fundraising would need to take place.
This past week saw the Island Hall host a bingo night with a phenomenal number of raffle prizes. Sabrina Burletson of the Hall said:
‘Huge thankyou to everyone who donated prizes, everyone who bought tickets and everyone that came tonight to play bingo and show their support! We need to do one more final count, but the number will be £2,000 towards Christmas Lights; this is a huge amount. Thanks again everyone, it really wouldn’t happen without you all. I’m extremely overwhelmed and proud to live in such a place where the community spirit is very alive.’ |
A silent auction with a painting donated by Rosanne Guille also raised an additional £400, bringing the total to an amazing £2,400. Island youngsters Cerys and Harry Knight have also organised a coffee afternoon with raffle at the Sark Sanctuary next week on Friday 24th November at 3pm. Raffle tickets are available in advance from Cerys, Harry or at Foodstop on the Avenue. Sark Chamber of Commerce have thanked the organisers of both of these events for raiding funds towards the Christmas Light Switch On and added: ‘We have had a number of people asking how they can make a donation toward the fund. These donations can be made to: Sark Chamber of Commerce NatWest Sort Code: 60-09-20 Account Number: 34620788 Please include the reference of Christmas Lights. We will keep you updated as things progress, but in the meantime please share the word that the Christmas spirit on Sark this year is alive and well!’ |
