Sark’s Annual Cheque Presentation raises further funds for Professor Saint Fund
The organisers of Sark’s Sheep Racing held another event last weekend to announce the amount raised throughout the year by that committee for the Professor Saint Fund which helps to subsidise the cost of the island’s prescriptions.
Over 90 people attended a dinner at the Island Hall who provided an excellent three course meal also contributing an additional £5 per person to the fund. Guess the Cheque, a raffle and auction raised yet even more money later that evening. A wreath- making workshop took place earlier in day and ensured that the Christmas spirit was evident whilst Miss Sark Princess 2023, Ruby Shuttleworth, presented a cheque to the value of £19,503.50 to the Sark doctor. Numbers to this year’s Sheep Racing weekend were down by 40% due to weather with the Manche Iles ferries being cancelled and the rain managed to hold off until the last sheep race was completed.
One of the organisers added online that:
‘Sark Sheep Racing is a real Sark community event, and the Sark community pulls together to make sure that the show does go on. We also have tremendous support from our sponsors and those who donate equipment/goods and services and our lovely visitors who make the weekend such a success. Thank you to everyone who has supported us.’
‘Sark Water Carnival Committee work tirelessly throughout the year raising money for the Professor Saint Medical Fund which subsidises prescription medicines for residents. Watch out for our next events, Casino Night early in 2024 and Bingo Night at Nova’s Bistro.’
