Chief Pleas’ first meetings of the New Year

These coming weeks will see the first meetings of 2023 for Sark’s government take place. Next Friday will see the Conseillers-elect from the uncontested 2022 general election sworn in: Jolie Booth, John Guille, Christopher Kennedy-Barnard, Andrew Miller and Helen Plummer will take the Oath of Office and the Allegiance before an Extraordinary meeting sees committee elections take place.

On Wednesday 18th January 2023, the statutory Christmas meeting of Chief Pleas will take place. The agenda appears to consist of principally housekeeping matters before the second Extraordinary meeting take place in which a new Speaker of Chief Pleas will be elected. Incumbent Speaker Lt. Col. Reginald Guille confirmed at the last meeting of Sark’s government that he would not stand for re-election to the role when his term of office expires on 27th February 2023. Nominations for this position opened on 28th December 2022 whilst the closing date is today, 6th January 2023 at 3pm.
