Deputy Speaker sworn into office

Jeremy La Trobe-Bateman was sworn into office as the deputy Speaker of Chief Pleas by Victoria Stamps, the island’s Seneschal, this past week following election and approval to that role by the House at last week’s Extraordinary meeting. This role became available following the election of the current Speaker, Paul Armorgie, in January of this year. Nominations for the position of deputy Speaker opened on 26th April and closed on 10th May this year of which Jeremy was the sole candidate.

Jeremy will certainly have plenty of the right experience, having previously served as deputy Seneschal for 13 years until the dual role of chief judge and president of the island’s government was split in 2013 following concerns that it did not comply with human rights laws.
