LATEST SARK ELECTRICITY SUPPLY UPDATE – CHIEF PLEAS FOLLOWS UP DELAYED PROPOSITION WITH A PUBLIC MEETING

A recent presentation made by Sark Electricity Ltd’s (SEL) managing director, Alan Witney-Price was held on Tuesday 20th September 2022 – 24 hours before Sark’s government were due to vote on electricity proposals at an Extraordinary meeting that was eventually not acted upon due to Chief Pleas not being quorate. Chief Pleas is now following up with a meeting of its own only 24 hours prior to the rescheduled Extraordinary meeting. The poster states that it to update residents regarding discussions, progress and proposed approach towards Sark’s electricity supply. However, this leaves very little time for any residents to make their views known to Conseillers. Chief Pleas has been negotiating by consent the purchase of the local electricity supplier though compulsory purchase legislation has also been enacted as a precautionary measure. Sark’s Policy & Finance Committee now proposes to bring before the House this week propositions that will lead to a new grid and new generation in competition with the existing provider.
