Nominations open for this week for election to Chief Pleas
Last week saw Sark’s Electoral Register close in advance of the proposed March 2023 by- election. Anyone who has been ordinarily resident on Sark for 24 months or more on or after the applicant has reached the age of 13 years could have applied though the Electoral Register will re-open for inscription once the election process has been completed. Once on Sark’s Electoral Register, you can vote in the island’s elections and also put yourself forward for candidacy.
The by-election has been called, as required by law, as a result of yet another uncontested general election in December 2022, with only five nominations for nine available seats, meaning that not one Conseiller in Chief Pleas has faced the electorate.
Nominations for the role of Conseiller need to be proposed and seconded by two Sark residents who are also inscribed on the Electoral Register on an official nomination form submitted to the island’s Returning Officer, also the Speaker of Chief Pleas. Nominations are open this week, from 10.00am on Monday 27th February 2023 and close at 12 noon on Friday 3rd March 2023.
