Two new island events to add to Sark’s social calendar

This past weekend saw two new events added to Sark’s tourist calendar, La Beltane festival and the Investec Sark Open Golf. La Beltane was held from 11.00am onwards at La Seigneurie on Saturday 29th April 2023 with several workshops including flower crowns, spoon carving, pottery, archery, foraging, willow craft and yoga. A programme of spoken word also saw children from Sark School perform a song in Sercquaise before other wordsmiths performed their own pieces. With a traditional mummer’s play, maypole, Morris and Ceilidh dancing, live music and the burning of the wicker man, the festival offered residents and tourists alike plenty to do.

Whilst elsewhere on the island, Sark’s inaugural Open Golf competition also took place, with a very unique 9-hole course being promised. Sponsored by Investec, any competition proceeds will be donated to local Sark charities. Whilst entries closed earlier this month, the event no doubt provided plenty of entertainment to bystanders.
