Will Sark’s 2022 general election attract enough candidates to be contested?

A missive sent to all Sark households this week clearly hopes to encourage local residents to do all they can to make the forthcoming 2022 general election a contested one. With the Electoral Register due to close next Friday, there is only a nomination window of five days, 28th November 2022 – 2nd December 2022, for potential candidates to submit their forms to the Returning Officer. The date of the election should there be enough candidates is Wednesday 14th December 2022.

It is hoped that Islanders will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidates. There have been five uncontested by-election and one uncontested general election since the last time residents were able to go to the ballot box in the general election of 2018.

The island-wide mailshot added:

‘Our island needs people from all walks of life and all ages to get involved with Chief Pleas. By becoming a Conseiller, you can make positive changes to our Island’s budget. Please get in touch with us if you’re interested in knowing more about becoming a Conseiller.’
